Holiday Events in San Antonio

Remember the Alamo–and see it done up in its holiday finery. San Antonio does it right when it comes to Christmas trees and Christmas lights all over The Alamo and the Riverwalk area.

While the Alamo may be the most famous landmark in the region, the Riverwalk is the crown jewel of downtown San Antonio, and it’s going to host several holiday attractions you won’t want to miss while you’re spending the holidays at our San Antonio corporate housing. On December 21st through December 23rd, take an evening stroll along the Riverwalk while it’s lined with 6,000 candles. If that’s not enough to get you in the Christmas spirit, check out some of our additional recommendations below.

Holiday Music

If you need a little holiday music to get you in the mood, San Antonio has a few classics on offer. Get tickets to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra performance on December 20th at the AT&T Center. On December 21st, visit the Lila Cockrell Theater to see The Nutcracker, performed by professional dancers from around the world. Or get tickets to see The Nutcracker performed by Ballet San Antonio at the Tobin Center, from November 28th to December 7th.

San Antonio Christmas Spectacles

Located on the outskirts of San Antonio, the Don Strange Ranch is home to the annual San Antonio Christmas Lights Festival. For a small fee, cars can drive through 2 miles of eye-popping Christmas light displays. This event will take place in the evenings from November 27th to January 3rd. Some lights create traditional holiday scenes, and some are better described as abstract art installations.

Deck the caves with boughs of holly! On weekend evenings from November 28th to December 23rd, visit the Natural Bridge Caverns for the family-friendly Christmas at the Caverns event. There will be a musical light show, a 30-foot Christmas tree, and an entire Christmas Village to transform the caves into a cheerful, festive space. Come for the musical light concert and caroling, stay for additional activities including a Christmas maze and zip lining!

Christmas at the Museum

On December 6th, the San Antonio Museum of Art is hosting a bazaar for local artists to sell their work. As it gets dark, visitors can gather on the banks of the San Antonio River to hear bands playing from river barges, which will be brightly decorated with holiday lights. At the museum, you can also see exhibitions of Chinese ceramics, and a collection of pre-Columbian art.

On December 18th at 6:30 p.m, the McNay Museum will host a viewing of the holiday classic film White Christmas, starring Bing Crosby. If you arrive early, you can partake in the wine reception. At the museum you can also see an Impressionist exhibition and collections of art from the southwest.
